The Platonic idea of a state-city, a prototype of all utopias, is based on three social classes and three structures:
The elite guardians The soldiers The masses
Monarchy Oligarchy Democracy
Much emphasis is put upon training the elite. The individual soul is divided into three. This structure repeats itself in the state.
Reason= the elite guardians
Courage= soldiers
Appetites= Masses
