The Problem of Knowledge

For Plato the big question was 'What is Knowledge?'

Is it sense perception?

NO- to rely on the mere senses, on appearances is not real Knowledge.

Is it purely mental?

No- for then it would be impossible to commit an error.

So it is an interaction between perceiver and perceived, under the guidance of an overall sense, the soul or mind. It is the soul which apprehends things like identity, difference, existence and number.

The third man problem: between a particular man and Plato's idea of a man, you can place a third man ad infinitum.
